What’s your job title and where do you work?
Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville, GA. I’m the Head Tennis and Pickleball Professional.
What’s your story, and how’d you get here?
A colleague of mine told me about the course soon after he started it and told me that I should consider taking it. Since I had aspirations of becoming a Director someday I thought that I decided to take the course in the hopes of furthering my career.
What are 3 of your favorite things about the course?
I like that it included all of the different settings that a Director of Racquet Sports might find themselves in. Meaning, a private club setting, corporation owned setting, public facility, or HOA. I also liked that it included a discovery section about yourself, to see what kind of personal behaviors you may need to work on. I also really enjoyed the section about creating memories for your members and the power of moments.
What surprised you the most as you worked through the course?
What has surprised me the most was the amount of information that was given. It went into great detail and had more information than I was expecting.
Have you been able to apply anything you’ve been learning so far?
Learning about all the different racquet sports has encouraged me to take more education and get certified in Padel, as well as grow the pickleball program at my club to the point where we needed more pickleball courts to serve the members.
How would you describe the Director of Racquet Sports Certificate Course to someone who doesn’t know what it is?
The Director of Racquet Sports course is an in depth course designed to give an individual all the necessary and pertinent information that might be required to successfully perform the duties of managing a tennis facility.
What is one thing we can’t guess about you from your resume/LinkedIn profile?
My two hobbies are gardening and playing poker.
What’s one racquet sports or leadership related book you recommend?
The Only Way to Win – Jim Loehr is a great book on the importance of teaching character in sports rather than just developing the athletes skills.
What do you see as the future of the racquet sports industry, and what needs to change in order for it to get there?
The racquet sports industry will likely get to the point where Directors will need to know a great deal about multiple different kinds of racquet sports. This course is the beginning of more education throughout the industry on how to build a total racquets facility and manage it.
