The University of Florida Institute for Coaching Excellence is making a significant impact with its commitment to supporting sport coaches globally. Professor of practice and expert on “Coaching for Moral Character Development”, Pete Paciorek (Doctoral Candidate in Servant Leadership and Character Education) facilitated a successful virtual workshop seminar for more than 60 coaches and educators in Kenya on November 17th, 2022. Professor Paciorek has been focused on character literacy development and the thriving of youth through the vehicle of sport for the past two decades, and he has taught graduate-level courses over the past five years in UF’s M.S. in Sport Management Online.
This workshop in Kenya focused on Cultivating Virtues in Leaders in Sport (CViL Model—developed by Dr. Mindy Bier at the Center for Character and Citizenship, UMSL) is one of many professional development program offerings that UF’s Institute for Coaching Excellence is facilitating rooted in data-driven research and best practices in coaching youth and amateur sport. With the vision of supporting coaches and student-athletes on and off the field, the Institute for Coaching Excellence is committed to high-performance athletic development; coach and athlete well-being; leadership and character development; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); and social and emotional learning (SEL) through sport.

It was a pleasure to have [Paciorek] speak to our Kenyan CViL school principals, teachers, and coaches. [His] presentation was very informative, timely and inspiring. We appreciated the many practical examples that [Paciorek] shared from [his] own personal experience as a Servant Leadership Coach.
