Kevin Carr, host of the HIT Show on the Athlete+ Network, met with Lauren Clayborne, an influential community relations director, to talk about her multiple transitions through her young life.
Lauren Clayborne is a Detroit native and an alumni of Michigan State University. After she graduated, Lauren worked in several different roles in Detroit, such as an Advertising and Promotions Analyst for General Motors, a Graduate Assistant for MSU’s Women’s Basketball team, and the Manager of Corporate Sponsorships for the Detroit Pistons.
She always had the mentality of saying “yes” to a new opportunity, which allowed her to make a life-changing decision to move to San Francisco and work with the Golden State Warriors. She currently serves as the Director of Community Relations and Player Programs for the Warriors.

Moving to San Francisco during the COVID-19 pandemic was a difficult transition for her personally, but she embraced the challenge of working in community relations during a time when there was no physical community to engage with.
In addition to working with the Warriors, Clayborne supports local children’s hospitals, contributes to ministry work, and wrote a book titled, What’s In Your Purse?: Carrying Your Faith Like You Carry Your Handbag.
When asked what advice she would give to young women looking to work in the sport industry, Clayborne emphasized the importance of having a strong support circle of friends, family, and coworkers but also having a mentor who may not have the same thoughts as yourself.
