Kevin Carr is back for another episode of the HIT Show with Arthur Hightower II. Hightower currently serves as the Senior Director of Player Engagement for the Los Angeles Chargers. He is a veteran in the player development space with expertise in athletic advising and over 18 years of experience with the Chargers.
Before working in the sporting industry, Hightower received his Bachelor of Science from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in Graphic Arts and Printing Management and then received his Master of Science in Physical Education from Florida State University. He knew after receiving his Master’s that he wanted to work in the sporting industry, so he worked with the NCAA as an Education Services Intern.
With over 25 years of experience in the sport industry, Hightower explains how vital it is to always continue to educate yourself on the ever-changing leagues and their structures. He also notes that you must be willing to start planning your next career before your current career is actually over.
Hightower often referred to his own personal career path while talking about the importance of building genuine and authentic relationships to be successful in the sport industry. He also gives advice on how to overcome many challenges that he and others have faced and will continue to face.
Throughout the podcast, you can hear about the Pro2CEO Report, Hightower’s thoughts about the development of HBCUs’ athletic departments, the difficulty of transitioning from student athlete to professional athlete, and advice for future workers in the sport industry.
