Dr. Michael Sagas and Dr. C. Keith Harrison met in Gainesville, FL to discuss athlete development initiatives, specifically in various backgrounds and areas of the United States. Dr. Sagas is a Professor and Researcher at the University of Florida, specializing in Athlete Development and Career Transition. Dr. Harrison is the DeVos Associate Unit Head at the University of Central Florida and is a major figure in the DEI space.
Dr. Harrison has been conducting background research for decades and has always emphasized the need for various viewpoints and Athlete Development courses in school curriculum. Prior to working in higher education, Harrison received both his Undergraduate degree and Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science, from West Texas A&M and Cal State Dominguez Hills, respectively. He later received his Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California in Higher Education.
Throughout the Podcast, Dr. Sagas and Dr. Harrison discuss topics such as Harrison’s “Scholar Baller” work and its impact on the practitioner world, including coaches, psychologists, counselors etc. Dr. Harrison also provides advice to improve competencies within the sport space, the current and future state of ongoing education in Collegiate and Professional programs, and the issues around mental health within youth athletes.
